52 Schools Benefit from Traffic Awareness at Abu Dhabi Book Fair

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, May 6th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

A total of 52 schools in Abu Dhabi benefited from the traffic awareness programs which were organized by the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate as part of the fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The traffic and patrols pavilion also attracted a significant public turnout and included open dialogues with visitors, so as to enhance the traffic culture and advocate the importance of adherence to traffic laws and regulations among all segments of society.

Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the ADP Traffic and Patrols pavilion in the fair’s “creativity corner” included several interactive programs. These programs were characterized by an integrated approach in addressing traffic issues; so as to embody the ADP’s social communication methodology, as well as its traffic safety strategy and its priority goal of making roads safer.

Lt. Colonel Al Ameri praised the attention received by the traffic creativity pavilion from various segments of society, especially school students. He also pointed out the Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s keenness to take part in the fair, which is an important cultural event hosted annually by the capital city.

For her part, Captain Aisha Mohammed Al Zaabi, Traffic Awareness Officer at the Public Relations Section, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, noted that the programs focused on the digital content as well as electronic applications, through traffic-themed competitions on iPad that were highly acclaimed by students. The programs also included the ‘Golden Rule’ of using school buses, namely; walk at least ten (10) steps ahead of the bus when exiting the bus and avoid bending down near the bus without the driver’s knowledge. Furthermore, students were trained on the rules of crossing roads and the importance of placing children under 10 years old in the back seat of the car.

It is worth mentioning that traffic contests and games were organized at the awareness pavilion, aimed at instilling traffic culture among students. Traffic awareness books and publications were also distributed to visitors.
