ADP Juveniles Care Center Celebrates World Health Day

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, April 9th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

In cooperation with Al Mafraq Hospital, the Abu Dhabi Police Juveniles Care Center organized a celebration on Tuesday to mark the occasion of the World Health Day, which is celebrated every year on the 7th of April.

Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the great attention devoted by the police leadership to provide juveniles with specialized care and rehabilitation as well as advanced programs to help integrate them into society. He also indicated that the World Health Day celebration is an occasion to enhance health education among this important segment of society and to raise their awareness on disease prevention.

“The comprehensive health care provided by the ADP Juveniles Care Center contributes to efficiently rehabilitate juveniles, thanks to the physical and psychological therapy; in addition to health awareness programs for juveniles that are periodically organized and include holding lectures and workshops presented by skilled health specialists,” he said.

For his part, Colonel Dr. Abdullah Muhammed Bu Hindi, Director of Al Mafraq Juvenile Care Center at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that health care is provided to juveniles upon their admission to the center. A number of medical tests are carried out under the supervision of the health unit at the center and results are properly documented and registered in a medical health file for each juvenile with a view to provide him with necessary medical services. He added that awareness lectures and health guidance programs for juveniles are also organized, as part of the center’s education programs.

Colonel Bu Hindi added that the World Health Day celebration is an important occasion to emphasize the importance of enhancing health and disease prevention awareness. He pointed out that the World Health Organization has chosen as a topic for 2014, to highlight the serious and increasing threat of vector-borne diseases and their risks for public health. Therefore, it is highly important to raise the level of awareness among juveniles for their own protection.

For her part, I’tidal Ashour, Nutrition Specialist at the Juveniles Care Center, indicated that the World Health Day events featured a number of activities. These activities included awareness lectures for juveniles and supervisors, which were presented by education specialists from Al Mafraq Hospital on how to prevent vector-borne diseases. She added: “To mark the World Health Day, the events at the center included a practical training on the guidelines to promote health and hygiene, notably the importance of thorough hand washing for at least 40 seconds and in a specific manner, then running them through a scanning device to make sure the hands are clean.

It is worth mentioning that every year World Health Day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of founding the World Health Organization in 1948. Every year, a theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health, providing individuals in every community the opportunity to take part in activities that can lead to better health.
