MENA College of Management Sets Up in Dubai International Academic City

Courses to commence in September 2014 and focus on key growth areas of Dubai economy

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, - Wednesday, April 9th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

MENA College of Management, which aims to provide students with the academic knowledge and skills to succeed and contribute to the advancement of Health Management and other management fields, announces that it is establishing their operations in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC).

As a recognised institution from the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, MENA college is expected to commence their operations in September for the 2014/15 academic year.

The MENA College of Management has been set up to address the growing demands of industries operating in Dubai’s expanding economy by providing Bachelor’s degree programmes in the hospitality, health management and human resources sectors, these programmes are currently under CAA’s accreditation process.  These sectors represent not only significant growth areas for the Emirate, but also sectors where skills shortages have been identified.

According to DIAC’s Workforce Planning Study, published in 2013 in collaboration with Deloitte, which covered 17 countries and 2,400 students and 235 companies, Human Resources skills are most highly demanded by companies, with significant skills shortages both at the entry and senior levels.

Furthermore, MENA College of Management’s Hospital Administration Programme is expected to play a significant role in supporting Dubai’s growth plans in the medical tourism sector. Recently announced plans from the Emirate’s Government to attract 500,000 medical tourists by 2020, generating AED2.62 billion in revenues, will be supported by the construction of 22 hospitals across Dubai.

The College is seeking to attract young people from Dubai, the UAE and wider region who are either high school graduates or professionals looking to further their education to compete for leadership positions in the workplace. Furthermore the College will benefit diploma students who are looking to take their qualifications to degree level.

Commenting from the sidelines of GETEX, on the MENA College of Management’s decision to set up operations in DIAC, Dr Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director, Dubai International Academic City, said:

“I am delighted that the MENA College of Management is setting up operations in DIAC. The College will provide specific courses that will play a key role in supporting the needs of Dubai’s vibrant and growing industries and sectors such as HR, hospitality and healthcare. It is these sectors where we can see the most demand based on research and Government directives such as Dubai’s Tourism Vision 2020, doubling the number of tourists into the Emirate over the next six years.

“The ability to engage with and educate students through technology is key. As companies become more advanced, the educational experience has to ensure that students are equipped to become productive members of the workforce. E-learning will ensure that technology is woven into the very fabric of curriculum delivery in addition to learning and assessment management systems all with the purpose of providing a total education experience for the student.”

The MENA College of Management is a specialised academic institution that offers Bachelor’s Degrees in the following subjects; Hospital Administration, Health Informatics, Hospitality Management, and Human Resources.

In ensuring that students secure as much practical experience as possible alongside their academic qualification, the Hospital Administration programme will include training in an affiliated hospital, while the Health Informatics programme will see students have to pass exams that will give them certification as either a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). What makes the College stand out is the way in which students have access to the systems that they will be using in their careers following graduation, ensuring that from day one following graduation they are able to make a positive impact in their place of work.

The courses offered by the MENA College of Management have been decided upon based in the needs of industry, but are also in niche sectors that are highly necessary to cater towards Dubai’s future plans and events such as EXPO 2020.

Professor Waleed Deeb, President of the MENA College of Management, added:

“The choice of DIAC as the location for the MENA College of Management was a strategic one. DIAC can add significant value to our proposition, giving us exposure to a large pool of talented students from all over the world.

“The Dubai Government has published a number of plans for its future growth that all indicate key growth areas and areas for further development which is how we chose the courses that we would offer to our students. To ensure that the Government’s social aims are achieved, Dubai will need graduates who have good degrees and the right experience in sectors such as health, tourism, and human resources. We intend to provide these and give our students a competitive edge, all the while seeking to identify additional sectors that will have key roles to play in the future.”
