ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, February 28th 2014 [ME NewsWire] A delegation from the Emirates Women Police Association (EWPA) made a visit to the Syrian refugee camps in Jordan, and inspected the medical and relief services at the refugee camp jointly run by the UAE Red Crescent and its Jordanian counterpart. They also took a tour of the UAE-Jordan Mobile Hospital. The UAE Women Police Association delegation, headed by Major Amina Mohammed Khamis Al Bloushi, EWPA Chairwoman, reviewed the winter relief, charitable, health and humanitarian assistance programs the UAE Red Crescent is offering to refugees. This falls in line with the ‘Our thoughts are with the people of Syria' campaign for the relief of the Syrian people, organized by the UAE Red Crescent last December. The delegation toured the UAE-Jordan field hospital in the Jordanian city of Mafraq, near the border with Syria. They inspected the quality of services at the hospital, which provides preventive health and therapeutic services to around 700 patients daily. The hospital includes several sections, such as the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics; the Internal Medicine ward; the Dental Clinic; the Surgery Center; as well as the medical labs and an Emergency Department that provides round-the-clock on-call service. The delegation also toured the UAE-Jordan camp in Mrajib Al Fhood, near the city of Zarqa. Hadi Hamad Al Kaabi, Manager of the Camp, briefed the delegation on the vital services provided to the refugees at the camp and its different facilities. "The camp currently houses 4,000 Syrian refugees, who receive the necessary decent and humane living conditions, as well as health and education services. The camp includes a school, a mosque, a health center, football pitches, and children’s playgrounds. The camp will be expanded in the near future to accommodate up to 10,000 refugees,” explained Al Kaabi. Hadi Al Kaabi added that the camp is divided into seven residential areas. It also includes a school providing classes from elementary to high school level for approximately one thousand students in line with the Jordanian curriculum. The school has two shifts, a morning shift for female students and a night shift for male students. The camp features a health center, a dental clinic, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, a market, a supermarket, a blacksmithing and carpentry training center, a women sewing and knitting workshop, in addition to literacy and memorization of the Qur'an classes. Major Amina Mohammed Khamis Al Bloushi praised the UAE Red Crescent’s vital humanitarian role, aimed at supporting Syrian refugees, and providing them with medical assistance, education, and decent humane living conditions. "There will be significant cooperation between the UAE Red Crescent Society and the Emirates Women Police Association to provide humanitarian support to Syrian refugees,” noted Major Al Bloushi. The delegation distributed gifts to children at the camp and their families, bringing joy and happiness to all.
