Second Crime Prevention Conference Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi Under the Patronage of Saif bin Zayed

Under the patronage of Lieutenant General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, opened the Second Crime Prevention Conference, taking place under the slogan "The Family…Prevention and Protection”, on Monday morning.  The three day conference is organized by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Department of Social Support Centers of Abu Dhabi Police, and is taking place at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi.

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Humaid Al Hadidi, Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police; and Brigadier Ali Abdullah Alwan Al Nuaimi , Commander in Chief of Ajman Police attended the event’s opening, with a number of commanders, director generals, heads of departments, and a large number of police officers.

Al Nuaimi delivered a speech, in which he said: "The conference is an important event that highlights the importance of childhood, as children represent the future of society. All segments of society hold the big responsibilities of encouraging children and enhancing their capabilities so that they become productive members of society; productive in order to protect society and guarantee its safety and security.”

He added: "Children must be protected. We should provide our children with protection and raise them in a correct way, based on scientific methods. Under the instructions of the Police Leadership, the Ministry of Interior is keen to provide protection and care for children. And under the directives of Lieutenant General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ministry has a comprehensive project in order to protect children according to the most advanced international standards, in line with Sheikh Saif’s keenness to make the UAE a hub for civilization and act as a regional model for child protection and security standards, utilizing every practice that guarantees safety and security in our societies.”

The conference started with recitations from the Holy Quran, followed by a speech delivered by Brigadier Najim Abdullah Al Hosani, Director of the Social Support Centers Department of Abu Dhabi Police, in which he welcomed the attendees to the Second Crime Prevention Conference, which is taking place under the slogan "The Family… Prevention and Protection” and is organized by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.

He also welcomed the experts and specialists who are working in the fields of early childhood and family development. These experts are participating in the session to discuss relevant ideas, exchange expertise and review the best international practices on family protection and crime prevention.

Al Hosani said: "The United Arab Emirates is hosting this conference to stress its interest in building efficient partnerships and increase cooperation and collaboration among social institutions and police forces across the world, in order to fight crime and protect people. These objectives can be achieved by joining forces and believing in the idea that fighting crime is not the responsibility of only one government entity, but is a collective responsibility that requires joint efforts in order to fight and protect against crimes with all means and strategies, especially since crimes know no borders, races or genders.”

He added: "Choosing this topic as a title for the conference reflects Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy that aims to gain the trust of society members, to encourage family cohesion, and aims to actively invest in children and provide them with excellent services in order to achieve safety and security and enhance the development process in the UAE and the rest of the world.”

Al Hosani stated: "The UAE is showing great interest in the family, in line with our higher leadership’s belief that the family is an influencing social system and the basis for any society. The UAE is organizing numerous family-related conferences, projects and programs through different institutions, in order to protect the family entity from the changes that are witnessed by modern society, which affect families.”

He added: "At the Ministry of Interior, we have many programs that target family members and children. We are working hard with many partners, from both government entities and the private sector, to promote many positive values within families. Through our initiatives, we are aiming to keep family members away from all kinds of crimes, using early intervention to solve the issues and problems before they develop. We also execute many awareness programs and campaigns throughout the year.”

At the conclusion of his speech, Al Hosani said: "If we want to be exceptional, we should become exceptional fathers and mothers.” Then he extended his gratitude to all attendees for their participation, expressing his confidence in the upcoming results and recommendations of the conference that "will achieve all of our hopes”. Al Hosani also wished everyone good luck.

After that, the sessions started. Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi chaired the first session that reviewed and discussed two papers. The first paper addressed the importance of the investment in early childhood and was presented by Dr. Mary Young from the USA. Samia Kazi, COO of Arabian Child and Tariq Kashmiri, Chairman of Arabian Child, presented the second paper that discussed the benefits of investing in early childhood education.

At the conclusion of the session, extra time was given for further discussion and questions.

The second session was chaired by Dr. Mozza Obeid Ghobash, chairwoman of the Rewaq Ousha bint Hussein Cultural Center. The session reviewed and discussed two papers. The first paper addressed the benefits of investments in social service and domestic visits programs, and was presented by Dr. Geraldine McDonald, Director of the Institute of Child Care Research in the UK. The second paper, which was presented by Lynne Peyton, child care consultant from the UK, discussed the benefits of investing in motherhood for the benefit of the economy and the people.

The conference deliberations continue, and the second day will review and discuss a number of other papers on the agenda.
