The Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police organized a workshop to brief employees from the Director General’s office, the Abu Dhabi Police GIS Center for Security, and the Strategic and Performance Development General Directorate on the environment and occupational health and safety management systems.
Captain Nasser Abdullah Al Sa’idi, Training Branch Manager at the Directorate General of Central Operations, and Ahmed Al Shaer from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health participated in the workshop. The event addressed the concept and the definition of environment and occupational health and safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It also introduced attendees to the ISO 14001 standards for environment management and the OHSAS 18001 standards for occupational health and safety management.
The workshop also reviewed the list of risks in work environments such as noise, garbage, energy and resource usage, as well as air, water pollution and soil contamination. It also presented a number of solutions that the directorate and executives can use, including, among others, waste treatment and recycling, energy saving methods, and ways to reduce the use of paper and ink.
Al Sa’idi highlighted the importance of occupational health and safety, while reviewing the risks that employees could be exposed to, such as "people and the movement of machinery, electricity and chemical resources.”
The workshop also highlighted the problems related to service utilities necessary for the employees’ convenience as well as the work environment, such as ventilation, lighting, desks, seats and noise. Such problems do not exist in the work environment of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, as the higher leadership is keen to provide a suitable work environment for Abu Dhabi Police’s employees.
