ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, January 21st 2014 [ME NewsWire]
One driver died, while a local woman and an African woman sustained moderate injuries, in a 5-vehicle pile-up that took place on Tuesday morning on the highway near Al Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi. The two that were injured were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital and Mafraq Hospital, while the body of the deceased was moved to the Preventive Medicine Clinic at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that the deceased’s vehicle caught fire. "The traffic patrols managed to return traffic flow to normal,” said Lieutenant Colonel Al Ameri. Lieutenant Colonel Al Ameri urged motorists to abide by traffic regulations, anticipate potential surprises on the road, exercise caution, reduce speed when approaching areas where traffic is diverted due to road work and construction, and leave enough space between vehicles. "Investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the accident,” concluded Al Ameri.
