ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, January 13th 2014 [ME NewsWire] The Traffic and Patrols Directorate recently established a traffic awareness village within the framework of the Ministry of Interior campaign’s "Beware of Motorbike Dangers.” Located in the Al Bada touristic region, the village witnessed intensive public attendance. In coordination with Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC), school students scored remarkable attendance. The event was organized in cooperation with The Al Ain Civil Defense Department, the Al Ain Emergency and Public Safety Department, and the Department of Community Police. Organized by MOI on the national level, the campaign aims at educating all motorbike riders and all community segments, especially the youth and families, about the importance of abiding by traffic laws to avoid accidents. The campaign extends on three months period. Major Saif Muhammed Naeif Al Ameri, Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that the section is keen on educating riders of motorbikes and quad bikes. The section is continuously working on raising the awareness of youth drivers as they form the widest segment of the motorbike riders. For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager at Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, and the Village Supervisor, indicated that the campaign supports the strategies of Abu Dhabi Police that is represented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate. This strategy is based on creating opportunities to communicate and cooperate with all social bodies in all events. This cooperation aims to widening the spread of traffic culture and achieving the goal of making roads a safer place. He also added that the village has so far received about 4000 visitors in the first two weeks. The activities will be extended till the end of next week. Furthermore, he explained that the section has set up an awareness plan for a mobile field unit that will contact quad bikes drivers in the areas where they practice this sport in Al Ain. The unit base will be in the Village in the Al Bada region; it will answer all drivers’ queries in addition to distributing awareness brochures and gifts in order to raise traffic awareness for quad bikes and vehicles drivers. Additionally, this awareness unit will be responsible for explaining safety requirements that should be applied. First Lieutenant Al Shamesi called upon motorbikes drivers to apply these requirements as they are meant to protect them from accidents. He concluded by wishing everyone’s safety. It is worth mentioning that Al Shamesi is delivering awareness lectures to the various levels students who are visiting the village. The lectures tackle many traffic topics such as safety and security basis while on the bike, and the conditions set for riding bikes while visiting the Village.
