The Third Brain Forum to be held during 26-27 May in Lausanne, Switzerland
In line with the efforts of the global community aiming to unveil the secrets of the human brain Lausanne, Switzerland - Monday, April 11th 2016 [ME NewsWire] Dr. Suad Al Hussaini Juffali: the Brain Forum aims to encourage research that can unveil the secrets of the human brain that science has not been able to discover yet, and aims to support start-ups in brain and nerves fields The third Brain Forum will run in collaboration with École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) from May 26th to May 27th at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Brain Forum was established by Dr. Walid Ahmed Juffali because scientific exploration of the human brain is a fundamental tool for tackling the challenges of the 21st century. As more and more people are affected by neurological conditions, there is a growing awareness of the importance of brain research to healthcare and its wider applications. WHO recently concluded that brain disorders account for 35 per cent of the burden of all diseases in Europe and will become the major medical need of this century. In 2010, the European Brain Council published a report demonstrating that brain disorders cost Europe EUR 800 billion in 2010 – more than cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes combined. Dr. Suad Al Hussaini Juffali, a figure renowned for encouraging special sciences related to mental disabilities and leading many organizations that support education in the Middle East, was appointed as the Chairperson of the Brain Forum. Dr. Suad Al Hussaini Juffali Chairperson of the Brain Forum noted that the previous two editions of the event held in Jeddah and Lausanne respectively, have been a great success. She noted that Dr. Walid Ahmed Juffali was keen to establish the Brain Forum after he obtained his Ph.D in Neuroscience from Imperial College London. She continued that Dr. Walid developed a clear vision stating that focusing on investments in technology is a promising opportunity to introduce communities around the world to the issues of the brain, and the way through which such technologies would unveil the secrets that science has not been able to uncover yet. She said that the issues of the brain require the collective efforts and approaches of all segments of the society including scientists, researchers, academics and investors. Hence, the Brain Forum is keen to become a platform gathering the largest number of representatives of these segments. She mentioned that this aims to allow these representatives to participate in discussions, present their research and introduce the efforts made in this regard, to create a clear image especially in relation to investments in technology to help them in their actions. The Brain Forum is expected to witness the introduction of two major initiatives from the European Union (EU) and Japan as well as updates from ongoing initiatives in the USA, EU and China. The Brain Forum will also see the return of the very well appreciated start-up competition offering opportunities for start-ups to advance and investors looking to invest in the solutions of the future. Dr. Jamil El-Imad, CEO of The Brain Forum, comments: “You can’t build the future based on present assumptions so we need to develop our thinking and be open to spontaneous opportunities that may lead to further brain studies and research, and highlights the opportunities of investing in brain technologies.” He added: “this edition of the Brain Forum will witness the presence of start-ups to shed light on investment and participation opportunities. These start-ups are corporates that serve healthcare according to the highest standards in the field of brain and nerves. Global companies will have a significant presence as well in order to maximize the benefits from brain research, especially after the great success of the previous two editions of the Brain Forum. Notably, the first edition of the Brain Forum in Jeddah was attended by 1300 participants, and the second edition in Lausanne was attended by 1500 participants. We expect the participation of 2000 participants in the third edition of 2016.” The activities of the Brain Forum will be broadcasted live on the following website: http://thebrainforum.org About EPFL
