In collaboration with the competent authorities of the Abu Dhabi Police, Civil Defense teams extinguished a fire that broke out today, Thursday, in the bunk beds of an apartment in a 17-story building on Zayed the First Street (“Electra Street”), in Abu Dhabi. A firefighter injured in the fire was transferred to Khalifa Hospital in Abu Dhabi for treatment, and three minor suffocation cases were treated onsite under the supervision of the paramedics of the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

33 Cyber Blackmail Cases Recorded during 6 Months

The Abu Dhabi Police warned community members against falling prey to “indecent” cyber scams, despite the repeated precautionary awareness efforts. ADP also noted that international gangs resort to webcam blackmail to record any online interaction with the victim and threaten to make the video public unless money is paid.

Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), informed that the Organized Crime Section at the Department has logged as many as 33 cyber blackmail cases during the first half of this year. Most cases involve footage of the victims in an indecent situation after being lured into the trap.

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate handled 16 minor fire accidents and carried out four rescue missions across Abu Dhabi during Eid El Fitr Holidays, which resulted in the death of an Asian man after an elevator cab unexpectedly fell on him in the Tourist Club Area.

Elaborating on the nature of the calls received, Colonel Juma Salem Al Dahmani, Acting Director of the Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi noted, “Most of the calls were reports of minor fire accidents.
