Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Reviews PhD Thesis on Disaster and Crisis Management

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi PoliceGHQ, at his office on Monday. Major General Al Raisi has recently obtained a PhD degree in disaster and crisis management.

Major General Al Raisi briefed His Highness on the objectives of the doctoral thesis he obtained from London Metropolitan University, in the United Kingdom. It is worth mentioning that the thesis titled ("Assessing the Impact of Key Skills and Levels of Work-Related Stress on the Performance of a Sample Members of the Emergency Departments and the Search and Rescue Team in Abu Dhabi Police GHQ”) was applied for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA Region).

Furthermore, His Highness was briefed on the concepts and results of the scientific study during their meeting. He also stressed the commitment of the higher leadership to provide the necessary resources, so as to improve the efforts of distinguished officers, especially those holding higher degrees.

His Highness praised the distinguished academic achievement made by the researcher, Major General Al Raisi,  calling on him to pursue further efforts, knowledge and skills in various professional and development areas; so as to achieve further success, as well as academic and practical accomplishments, with a view to serve his nation and society to the fullest.

On the same note, His Highness encouraged all the Ministry of Interior’s staff members to pursue educational excellence and double their efforts to achieve greater success, as well as academic and professional excellence, to promote coveted corporate performance. Moreover, His Highness expressed his heartfelt appreciation of the academic achievements accomplished by national cadres. "They are role models and a source of pride for the Police Organization, which already includes a growing number of members holding higher degrees in delicate and modern specializations that benefit police work,” concluded His Highness.

For his part, Major General Al Raisi expressed his deep esteem for the unwavering support and the important role of His Highness in developing promising leaderships and competencies, and contributing to the development of outstanding police work.

He said: "His Highness’s constant support for the Ministry of Interior’s staff members in general and scientific researchers in particular, enhances the development efforts in all areas of police work”. He also pointed out that pursuing excellence is the main pillar to promote creativity at work, and to drive performance rates forward.

The meeting was attended by Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of the Office of His Highness, the Minister; and a number of officers.

It is worth mentioning that the study is a sample field evaluation, to examine the impact and various levels of work-related pressure, as well as the effect of basic skills gained through the training on the performance of field emergency crews, especially those working in the rapid intervention teams and search and rescue teams.

The study also shed light on the impact of work-related pressure on the performance of members of emergency teams. It also highlighted the importance of training to raise the level of performance required to respond to emergency situations and various disasters. The study included 539 respondents from the Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police, the Emirates Search and Rescue Team(UAESRT), as well as from the Rapid Intervention Team of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.
