Leadership Development Center's Delegation Concludes visit to Australia

The Leadership Development and Creativity Center at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior concluded a 13-day visit to Melbourne, Australia. The visit is part of the inaugural Program to Identify and Sponsor Creative Individuals launched by the Ministry of Interior in June 2013.

The program provides training for 20 staff members from the Ministry of Interior selected according to specific criteria, after passing IQ tests, creativity quizzes, and personality tests.

Lt. Colonel Saif Hamid Al Dir’e, Director of the Leadership Development and Creativity Center stressed the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to innovation as a key component of institutional development, placing it at the top of its strategic objectives (2011-2013).

He noted that the Ministry has established the Award for Innovation and Creativity in 2011, as one of the Minister of Interior’s Excellence Award categories. "Winners of this award get job privileges to instill principles of motivation and recognition to reward exceptional employees' innovations. This award embodies the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to encourage creativity and innovative proposals to ensure continuous improvement of services quality and efficiency,” indicated Al Dir’e.

For his part, Major Fahed Al Hosani, Chief of the Creativity Sponsorship Section at the Leadership Development and Creativity Center emphasized that the Melbourne visit is an important aspect in the Creativity Sponsorship Training Program. "It acquaints participants with the best innovative practices used  in the police field in Australia, which were approved after standard benchmarking against the innovative initiatives adopted by ambitious cities to improve police performance,” noted Al Hosani.

Major Al Hosani indicated that the training program included field visits to various police bodies, including the Victoria Police Directorate, the Traffic Authority, the Victoria Accidents and crises Authority.  The visits also included the Police Museum, to review the best crime fighting methods; the Immigration and Passports Museum, to review the proper methods to deal with immigrants. "These visits aim to provide the program participants with information and knowledge to foster creative thinking,” he added.

"Other field visits included the Road Accidents Authority and a set of authorities that have adopted creative initiatives to achieve notable success in their operations.  Intensive training workshops were also organized to highlight the mechanisms to stimulate creative ideas as a cornerstone for development projects  to achieve the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Interior, and ensure the efficiency and quality of government services,” added Al Hosani.

Participants of the inaugural Program to Identify and Sponsor Creative Individuals had carried out field visits within the UAE to the Masdar Green City and the Roads and Transport Authority to get acquainted with the innovative solutions adopted by both parties in planning and elaborating pioneering and innovative initiatives in terms  of road and energy planning. The visit achieved its coveted objectives to expand the creative horizons of the staff members.
