Emergency Medicine Conference highlights the importance of International Cooperation in Managing Disasters

The Emergency Medicine Conference reviewed the quality of the available emergency services. The conference was an opportunity to review the foundations of the system, which include standards and quality. A number of services were evaluated, including the evacuation of the injured, response to emergency heart conditions, assistance of the elderly and the air ambulance’s efficiency. The development of human resources in the medical field was also discussed at the event.

At the end of the event, which was organized by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, the conference’s participants asserted the importance of international cooperation during medical emergencies. They noted that the UAE is highly advanced in this field, and praised the country’s efforts in emergency search and rescue operations.

In addition to that, the conference addressed major crises, the role of simulation in emergency medicine, ethical considerations in emergency settings, and the future of emergency medicine care. It also addressed training, capability, and improving the effectiveness of emergency personnel.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, General Director of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters, explained that the UAE has gone through a long process to prepare and train qualified emergency experts. He said that this is what made the UAE the best country, both regionally and internationally, in providing excellent medical emergency services to locals, residents, and visitors of the country. He pointed out that the UAE had done a lot to support international efforts in medical emergencies and in disaster relief. He said that the UAE is sharing its services and helping other countries.

Major General Al Raisi emphasized the fact that emergency medicine has evolved recently, and this has helped improve the quality of the services. Furthermore, he described the stages of establishing and developing the UAE Search and Rescue Team, which has carried out a number of international missions. He said that officers from the Emergency and Public Safety Department and the Crisis and Disasters Department at Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations Directorate General have attended training courses in Boston and at the Urban Shield training center in California.

Moreover, he pointed out the State's efforts and contributions to the rescue operations in the Philippines, which took place in collaboration with the Medical Services Department and its partners from Harvard University. He also praised the establishment of the Emergency Medicine Academy, which is the first of its kind in the MENA region.

On his part, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ibrahim Al Ameri, Director of Emergency and Public Safety Department at Abu Dhabi Police described the conference as an important event that aims to develop the medical emergency services and aims to improve the effectiveness of its staff, all while working within the framework of ADP’s vision of providing the best services in this field.

It is worth mentioning that all the presentations and courses, as well as the six CME workshops that took place at the conference, are accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

Dr. Amer Hussein, CEO of the Emergency Medicine Academy at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that the conference’s accreditation by The Royal College of Surgeons in England represents the highest level of quality, and contributes to the growth and advancement of the conference’s attendees. The conference included 6 workshops and more than 20 scientific presentations about various emergency medicine-related subjects. The conference was attended by professors from Harvard University and staff from its affiliated hospitals.

At the conference’s closing ceremony, the conference’s sponsors and supporters were acknowledged and honored. Certificates were also distributed.
