ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, December 10th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior concluded its educational lectures targeting workers as part of the Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones’ comprehensive educational program for the year 2013.
Lieutenant Juma’a Al Hosani, Supervisor of the awareness program for employees at the bureau, indicated that the program targeted more than 8000 workers from 20 labor villages across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region. It focused on workers’ legal rights and obligations as stipulated by the laws and regulations enacted in the State so as to provide them with a decent and safe life.
"Activating partnerships with institutions that employ workers confirms the bureau’s keenness to protect workers’ interests by raising their culture and awareness of the various legal matters, out of the belief that educating workers is instrumental to proactively direct their actions within the limits of the law,” Al Hosani said.
Lieutenant Khaled Saif Bu Dhufaira gave a presentation for workers, showcasing the most important legal rights stipulated by the UAE Constitution and the regulations issued there under. He also cast light on the legal position and the resulting penalties pertaining to certain behaviors regarded as illegal by the law such as unlawful gathering. "The law prohibits rallies that prevent or hinder the implementation of the laws and regulations. Such actions are punishable by imprisonment or a fine,” he said.
The presentation also included an overview of legal provisions contained in the federal law on entry and residence of foreigners, which criminalized illegal entry to the country. Concluding, he emphasized that cooperating with the competent authorities by reporting any offense is the best way to provide workers with legal protection.
