Abu Dhabi Police Hosts the First Annual Meeting of the Arab Forensic Evidence Network

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters hosted on Tuesday the first annual meeting of the Arab Forensic Evidence Network, still under construction. Six Arab countries are taking part in the meeting, which will take place over the course of two days.

Major General Staff Dr. Obeid Al Hiri Salim Al Kutbi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police met the meeting’s participants at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.  He stressed the importance of cooperation, exchange of information, and sharing experiences between relevant networks and member states to establish the Arab Forensic Evidence Network.

"We are looking forward to cooperation and consultation among the founding members, especially in the fields of training, research and scientific applications to improve qualifications according to approved international standards,” Al Kutbi added.

Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department at the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the meeting at the Forensic Evidence Department. Colonel Hassan Al Hosani, Deputy Director of the Forensic Evidence Department, attended the inauguration.

Al Hammadi stressed the significance of the meeting, as it promotes cooperation and coordination and demonstrates the member states’ hopes of establishing the Arab Forensic Evidence Network. The network aims to improve the field of forensic science, and expand the extent of cooperation among countries in this field.

Colonel Al Hammadi said that the Abu Dhabi Police is keen on discharging its duties in security and forensic work according to the highest standards of performance, and striving to achieve the strategic goal of excellence, as per the instructions of the police leadership.

At the meeting, a documentary about the development of Abu Dhabi Police’s Forensic Evidence Department was screened. The documentary also shed light on the efforts exerted to qualify the Emirati officers, which attained an excellent position in forensic work.

Forensic expert Jan de Kendo elaborated on the efforts made to establish international forensic evidence standards. He pointed out the importance of this experience, which the Arab Forensic Evidence Network can make use of when establishing its own framework.

In addition to the UAE, the member states in the Arab Forensic Evidence Network are KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, and Jordan.
