999 Magazine Celebrates the UAE’s 42nd National Day
Launching "Fakhrouna Khalifa” (Khalifa, our Pride and Joy) Annual Book

The cultural, social and security 999 magazine published by the Ministry of the Interior took part in the UAE’s 42nd National Day celebrations by releasing its annual book titled: "Fakhrouna Khalifa” (Khalifa, our Pride and Joy). The ceremony was held on Tuesday the 10th of December 2013 at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Attending the ceremony were Major General Staff Dr. Obeid Al Hiri Salim Al Kutbi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, sponsor of the ceremony; Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services, Chairman of 999 Magazine Development Committee; Colonel Thani Butti Al Shamesi, Head of the Training Department at Abu Dhabi Police and 999 magazine Development Committee member; Lt Colonel Awadh Saleh Al Kindi, Editor-in-Chief of 999 Magazine. Also present were a large number of MoI and ADP officers, representatives of sponsoring institutions, and several prominent figures and members of the media.  

In his address to the gathering, Al Kutbi said: "As is customary for this occasion, the 999 magazine brings us together, under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior in celebration of the ‘Spirit of the Union’ to mark the 42nd anniversary of the UAE National Day.  In that spirit, the founding father late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God have mercy on his soul), and his brethren the rulers of the Emirates exerted tireless efforts and laid the foundations of a unified, secure, safe, peaceful and prosperous country for all citizens and residents. They led the march of development, which witnessed great achievements, and continues under the wise leadership of the great successor, H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. For this end, 999 Magazine has chosen to commemorate the occasion by issuing its annual book under the title: ‘Fakhrouna Khalifa’ (Khalifa, our Pride and Joy). This reflects the UAE people’s pride in H.H Sheikh Khalifa achievements as a source of pride that put the country and its people at Arab and international arenas.”

Major General Al Kutbi extended the greetings of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior to the 999 Magazine Development Committee members, and its staff members. "The gesture reflects His Highness’s appreciation for their strenuous and fruitful efforts to change the magazine’s content from a police and security title to a social and cultural one,” said Al Kutbi. He also pointed out that the magazine and its supplements have succeeded to achieve its vision of creating "A New Concept for the relationship between Police and community members".

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services, Chairman of 999 Magazine Development Committee, underscored the support and attention of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for the magazine, which were instrumental to develop the magazine’s shape, content and reach.  He stated: "His Highness ordered the issue of a monthly supplement called Police Community which contains news and information about Abu Dhabi police personnel. He also ordered the release of the 999 Magazine’s English version, and the 999 Children Magazine, with a view to deliver the police’s security, cultural and social message to all society segments, of all age groups and nationalities. "

Badran applauded the efforts of the magazine’s work team for their role in achieving this qualitative development.  He also praised the efforts of private and public institutions for their contributions in sponsoring both the ceremony and the annual book’s release.

Lt Colonel Awadh Saleh Al Kindi, Editor-in-Chief of 999 Magazine, indicated that following the directives of the police leadership, the magazine issues an annual book featuring the most prominent achievements realized under the support of the wise leadership. This effort is followed up by the Chairman of the Development Committee. This year’s book is titled: ‘Fakhrouna Khalifa’ (Khalifa, our Pride and Joy), ” said Al Kindi, adding that the celebration was held in collaboration between the magazine and a number of public and private institutions, in line with the efforts to achieve the vision of "A New Concept for the relationship between Police and  community members".

Participating in the ceremony was a number of partners and sponsors who lauded the role of the magazine in boosting cooperation among people.

Sponsor of the event, Major General Al Kutbi received an Appreciation Shield from Major General Khalil Dawood Badran on behalf of 999 Magazine, and another appreciation shield from "Watani UAE” Company. After that, Major Generals Al Kutbi and Badran, and Lt Colonel Al Kindi honored all sponsors.  

The ceremony began with recitations of the holy Quran, recited by Ali Al Hosani. Then media presenter, Saoud Al Kaabi delivered a speech. Attendees screened a video clip of the poem titled: "Al Zaeem Al Falahi” prepared by Security Media Department and produced by Jumaa Al Sahli. The celebration also included national songs and folklore dances.
