The Arab Human Rights Committee recently visited the Ministry of Interior’s Human Rights Department. During the visit, the Arab Human Rights Committee (Charter Committee) from the Arab League, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, examined the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in the field of human rights.
Upon their arrival at the ministry’s headquarters, members of the Arab Human Rights Committee were welcomed by Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, in addition to a number of officers and representatives of departments that specialize in human rights at the Ministry of Interior.
Brigadier Ahmed Nehkairah gave an overview of the Human Rights Department’s role at the ministry, and spoke about their tasks and duties that help the ministry advance in the field of human rights. He also briefed the committee about the supportive initiatives that have been set up as part of the ministry’s strategies in this regard. Brigadier Nehkairah also spoke about the efforts that the ministry has made to provide organizational units, including an institutional framework that will help protect and improve human rights, and support the ministry’s efforts in both local and international undertakings.
The Arab Human Rights Committee is currently visiting national organizations working in the field of Human Rights in order to closely inspect the State’s efforts in this field, and to revise the role of its institutions that work within the field.
The Arab Human Rights Committee’s first report on the UAE will be compared to article (48) of the Arab Charter of Human Rights, and will be discussed on the 23rd and 24th of December at the Arab League’s Headquarters in Cairo.
