ADP: Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Annual Meeting Kicks off

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ inaugurated Wednesday the 23rd Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Annual Meeting for Bone Diseases and Injuries organized by the international Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society (MUSoc). The four-day conference, held at the conference halls of the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, is sponsored by the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ as a platinum sponsor.   Major General Badran lauded the great attention devoted by Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior to the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. The department uses the latest medical equipment and techniques to provide excellent services to the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police’s staff members.

In his statement on the sidelines of the Conference, the Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police reiterated the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to keep abreast of the latest techniques and practices to enhance the security and safety of community members. Major General Badran commended the participation of international experts in the Conference, which allows attendees to keep abreast of the latest scientific and research developments in the medical field and to develop practical experiences that enhance performance.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Brigadier Salem Al Shamesi, Deputy Director General of Finance and Services; Lieutenant Colonel Jassim Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Director of Medical Services Department; along with a number of international experts and lecturers participating in the conference; and officers from the Medical Services Department.

Lieutenant Colonel Jassim Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Head of the Medical Services Department delivered a speech on the occasion. He welcomed the experts and lecturers taking part in the 23rd Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Annual Meeting for Bone Diseases and Injuries organized by the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society (MUSoc).

"The meeting is particularly important because it is being held for the first time in the Gulf and the Middle East region. It embodies the continuous support of the Police Leadership. It also reflects its abiding faith that the police role goes beyond traditional concepts of law enforcement to strengthen social cohesion and improve the quality of people’s life,” indicated Al Tunaiji. He also pointed out that the conference complements the previous editions held under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, and the supervision of the Medical Services Department.

Furthermore, Lieutenant Colonel Al Tunaiji expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Major General Khalil Badran, Director General of Finance and Services, for his tireless follow-up, to enable the Medical Services Department to be at the forefront of all developments taking place in the health care sector, to ensure that all patients receive excellent health care.

He also thanked the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Society (MUSoc) for choosing Abu Dhabi to host this annual meeting. . Al Tunaiji addressed his sincere thanks to the lecturers and scientists for enriching the conference with valuable scientific information and distinguished hands-on workshops, and valued the participation of doctors and technicians coming from different countries all over the world.  Concluding, he wished everyone success in achieving the coveted aspirations and hopes.

Later on, the first work session began with a work paper submitted by Dr. Patricia Kolowich, practicing Orthopedic Surgery doctor from the United States. Dr Kolowich tackled the structural and surgical anatomy of the shoulder joint; clinical examination methods for diseases and injuries of the shoulder; shoulder bursae and the surrounding tendons.

For his part, Dr. Ayman Mohammed Fahim, Board Certified Orthopedic from the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police presented a detailed presentation on the diagnosis of the biceps tendons at the shoulder joint, a constant source of joint pain. The presentation also shed light on the importance of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of various biceps muscle diseases, and ultrasound-guided interventions for therapeutic injections.

In the second session, two working papers were submitted and discussed. The first paper presented by Dr. Geert Vanderschueren from Belgium touched on shoulder joint inflammation. Professor Kil-Ho from Korea submitted a second working paper on the dynamic ultrasound examination of the shoulder joint.

Upon conclusion of the sessions, the hands-on workshops began. Officers were divided into groups to carry out the practical exercises, under the direct supervision of the international experts participating in the conference.
