48 Thousand People Benefited from 308 Traffic Awareness Lectures in Abu Dhabi during 9 Months
9 Testimonial Movies from Young People who had met with Traffic Accidents

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, November 8th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

A total of 47,998 individuals benefited from 308 traffic awareness lectures organized by the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate over a period of 9 months, from April until September 30th. These lectures are in line with the traffic safety strategy and the traffic awareness plan implemented by the directorate.

Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the lectures targeted young people in particular; urging them to comply with traffic laws and to reduce speed. "They also shed on the major causes of various kinds of traffic accidents,” he said.

Lt. Colonel Al Ameri stressed that "road safety is everyone's responsibility”. "The awareness-raising programs aim at improving the behavior of drivers in general, particularly the young, with a view to increase traffic culture through lectures and exhibitions in schools and universities. This aims to maintain their lives and prevent traffic accidents by focusing on the major causes of road accidents,” indicated Al Ameri.

"The lectures warned young motorists against reckless driving, underscoring the risks of fitting vehicles with illegal additions and modifications, street racing, show-offs and stunts and driving motorcycles recklessly,” emphasized Al Ameri; urging young motorists to comply with safety requirements, and to wear a helmet when driving a motorcycle.

"As part of its keenness to develop its awareness-raising programs, the directorate has produced 9 awareness-raising movies at the country wide level. The movies highlight the suffering of young people who sustained serious injuries in car accidents, and have to spend the rest of their life with their disabilities. Every case tells a tragedy of an individual who has met with a life-changing traffic accident,” noted Al Ameri.

Chief of Public Relations Section indicated that the testimonial movies include guidance for young people. He called on the various segments of society, particularly young people, to watch the movies on the directorate’s pages on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. "The directorate is keen to innovate in its interaction with the youth, the biggest society segment.  The campaign targets all segments of society in schools and universities, as well as workers and families,” said Al Ameri.

Concluding, Al Ameri urged motorists, especially young drivers, to abide by traffic laws and speed limits, to leave a safe distance between vehicles, to avoid jumping the red traffic signal, and to avoid overtaking on the hard shoulder. He also called upon them to pay attention, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and to use seatbelts.
