Abu Dhabi Police Provides Dental Services to the Public
Starting with people with special needs, elders, and private school students

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, November 10th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police launched a mobile dental care unit to check the teeth of a wide social category. The unit will cover people with special needs, elders, private school students, and the public across different public locations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The first round began at the Centers of the Ministry of Interior for Training and Employment of People with Disabilities in Al Ain and the Al Ain Center for Care and Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities at the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs.

This step comes under the ‘Hope Plant’ initiative launched by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to reflect the Ministry of Interior’s social responsibility towards the public, as well as the ministry’s moral responsibility towards people with special needs, elders, and youth.

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at the Abu Dhabi Police, said: "This is yet another gift from His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Thanks to His Highness’s directives to deliver services to those who deserve it and address the suffering witnessed by some social categories via a police medical team at the mobile dental clinic. The clinic includes a mechanical lift that enables people with disabilities to reach the dental chair easily. The clinic can also accommodate people at their places, thus providing services to students and other categories.”

Mohammed Mohammed Fadel Al Hamli, Vice Chairman and the Secretary General of the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, highlighted the leading role of the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, headed by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in taking care of disabled people through the ministry’s rehabilitation centers and supporting this category with different activities and events.

Mohammed Khamis Al Hadadi, Member of the Board of the Al Ain Center for Care & Rehabilitation for Persons with Special Needs, said: "This humanitarian initiative represents a positive interaction and reflects the commitment of officials at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to provide the means to help and support people with special needs.”

He added: "Many governmental departments, institutions and authorities in the country in general, and in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular, are very keen to provide help and support to these categories. This is in line with the vision and the mission of the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs and its efforts to rehabilitate these categories, as well as provide humanitarian services and help integrate them into society as effective members supporting the development of the country.”

Nasser bin Aziz Al Sharifi, Director General of the Centers of the Ministry of Interior for the Rehabilitation and Employment of People with Disabilities, praised the initiative as he said: "It represents a new step for the Ministry of Interior within its restless efforts to take care of this category. The Ministry of Interior is the caretaker and guardian of people with disabilities. This initiative will support social security and family ties, and it will help integrate people with disabilities into their communities.”

The unit will carry out its scheduled field visits to cover all the institutions and centers of care and rehabilitation and private schools within the Abu Dhabi Education Zone gradually, in addition to shopping centers and other public facilities.

Major Dr. Mohammed Al Raisi, Manager of Dental Branch at the Abu Dhabi Police’s Medical Services Department, said: "A dental team that is qualified to treat different ages and health conditions has started its dental surveying program to identify dental conditions and provide field dental services to people with disabilities, students, and elders. The team can reach these categories in schools, care centers, etc. in order to save them the trouble to come to clinics to receive dental care.”

Emirati citizen Abdullah Saif Al Ariani, the first disabled patient to receive this service at one of the care centers in Al Ain, expressed his happiness for this preventive measure as well as the field dental treatment and follow-ups. He said that the mobile police dental clinic, with its special lift to help disabled people reach the dental chair, has brought joy to his heart and the hearts of other patients. "We know that there is always someone who is thinking for our comfort and working to achieve with all possible means, in order to relieve us of the burden of our disabilities,” he explained.

The mobile dental team works in two shifts, morning and evening, to cover the cities and areas of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, accompanied with nursing and administrative teams. The administrative team is working to assess the experience, develop it, and tackle any obstacles.
