With the winter season approaching us and going out getting more frequent; never underestimate the power of a sexy dazzling smoky eye. When applied to your lids for a special party or a dramatic evening it doesn't disappoint the wearer.
It’s all about smoking up those eyes and looking as mysterious as can be. The trick with smoky eyes is that it is a lot of makeup; and without understanding your eye shape and how to enhance it properly your smoky eyes can take away from the beauty of your eyes rather than flatter them.
The most common eye shapes that need correction with makeup are; small deep set eyes, and large protruding eyes. We will be taking you through the essential dos and don’ts for each eye shape, and a step by step tutorial.
Small deep set eyes:
At first glance, one would think a sultry, smoky look is impossible if you have small deep set eyes. Deep set eyes are expressive and soulful but they are also three-dimensional. It is easy to end up with dark smudges in the corners that make you look as if you had a sleepless night or looking tiered.
The Correction needed for small deep set eyes is to make them look more Protruding, make the lid appear larger as it is usually quite small; and make the eye look larger.
To achieve the best results make sure you keep those golden rules in mind:
Always apply a light color pencil on your waterline (white or light blue) instead of a black or brown pencil.
always opt for a length mascara than a volume one; long lashes make eyes appear larger
always apply a lot of mascara on your lower lashes
always apply a generous amount of a dark shadow on your lower lash line to give the illusion
The secret? Use light-colored shadows instead of a jet-black hue to make your eyes look larger and brighter.
Smoky step by step:
Apply a lid primer all over your eye
Use a small eye shadow pencil in a color of your choice draw a medium line on your upper lid and your lower lash line
Using a blending brush and an eye shadow in a similar color; blend in the pencil with the eye shadow to create a smoky effect, avoid covering your entire lid in the dark color to give the illusion of space
Using a liquid liner draw a very thin line on your upper lash line and lower
Apply length mascara heavily and you can apply lashes for a more dramatic look.
Large protruding eyes:
If you have prominent eyes however, you'll want to reduce the appearance of your large lids without creating a beauty disaster. To transform your eye from same-old, same-old to smoldering, apply dark-colored shadows to your lids to reveal a smokin' hot and foolproof evening eye.
Correction for large protruding eyes is the opposite; where we try to make the eyes look smaller in size, and more deep set. To achieve the best results make sure you keep those golden rules in mind when doing your smoky eyes;
always apply a dark pencil on your waterline to make the eye appear less protruding
always go for a volume mascara as the volumizing effect makes the eyes appear less protruding
do not apply a dark color on your lash line neither should you apply mascara on your lower lash line
Smoky Step by Step:
Apply a lid primer all over your eyes
Using a crease proof cream eye shadow, apply using a brush all over your lid and your lower lash line
Using a blending brush and a powder eye shadow of a similar color blend the cream eye shadow all the way up to the crease. Cover your entire eye ball area in a dark color to make the eyes appear more deep set.
Using a liquid liner, outline your upper and lower lash line in thick lines
The secret? Apply volume mascara or even eyelashes for a more dramatic look on your upper lash line only.
