Regional Conference showcases Women Police contribution to Improve Police Services
Tackling the MoI’s Efforts in the Field of Human Rights and Combating Crime

The 2nd Regional Conference of Women Police in Abu Dhabi will convene on November 25 under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The conference will shed light on the development process of Women Police and their personal abilities. Also on the agenda, the role of female police officers in forensics and the modern techniques of combating cyber crimes. Discussions will encompass the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in the fields of Human Rights, and with Ewa’a Shelters for Women and Children, victims of human trafficking.

The Conference is organized by the Emirates Women Police Association (EWPA), in collaboration with the Training Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the Scientific Committee for the Seminars and Conferences at the Ministry of Interior. The conference, held under the theme "Women Police…Challenges and Future” will witness a wide scale international participation.

In a joint press conference with the sponsors on Wednesday, the Emirates Women Police Association indicated that the conference aims to shed light on the UAE’s efforts to develop the Women Police sector. It also aims to reflect the distinctive role of Emirati women in general, and to emphasize the stature of the UAE as a haven of safety and security.  

The EWPA also praised the patronage of Caracal International, the strategic partner of the conference, which operates under the Tawazun Holding Group; the Bin Bandooq Tools & Oilfield Services, the Golden Sponsor; the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), the silver Sponsor; and the ADNOC Distribution Company.  

In his address at the press conference, Colonel Thani Bhutti Al Shamesi, Head of the Training Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said: "The UAE takes pride in women’s participation in the development process in the country, thanks to the support of our Leadership.” Al Shamesi reiterated the Ministry of Interior’s commitment, since the establishment of the Union, to provide all possible resources and opportunities to engage women in police work.  He added: "The Higher Leadership has provided Emirati women with support and the suitable environment to enable them to get adequate education in various disciplines, as per the principles on gender equality and equal opportunities.”  

Al Shamesi pointed out that women in the UAE have attained prominent positions commensurate with their nature and in keeping with our customs and traditions and the teachings of Islam. "Women have proven to be highly efficient in discharging their duties in all fields, up to par with their male counterparts,” he continued.

Colonel Al Shamesi noted that the Emirates Women Police Association is the 26th and only Arab member of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP). The conference will host a number of prominent international speakers, notably including the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers; the United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues; the   International Association of Women Police (IAWP) president; and the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Female police officers will be granted seven awards by the Emirates Women Police Association, with the Distinguished Female Employee with Disabilities Award being the first of its kind worldwide.

Al Shamesi added that the conference will feature a number of workshops pertaining to the role and progress of women police, as well as their contribution to improve and develop police services. "A Women Police parade and exhibition will be part of the Conference’s events,” he concluded.

Mr. Sultan Zakaria Aouda, Chief Executive Officer of Caracal International, the strategic partner of the conference, which operates under the Tawazun Holding Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to support the efforts to activate societal participation, and to recognize the police institution’s role in maintaining the security and stability gains.

Speaking on his behalf, Khouloud Al Tawil said that Caracal International has provided women with the opportunity to work on the production lines at the company, and gave them incentives to contribute to the economic sectors’ development.

 Mohammed Al Qamzi, CEO of Bin Bandooq Tools & Oilfield Services, the Golden Sponsor of the conference, tackled the roles assumed by women in the police force, wondering whether they are taking part of all fields of police work.  Colonel Thani Bhutti Al Shamesi assured that there is no place off-limits within the force for women, stressing the MoI’s keenness to see women work hand-in-hand with their male counterparts.

Captain Amina Mohammed Khamis Al Bloushi, Chairwoman of the UAE Women Police Association and Regional Director for Women Police in the Middle East region indicated for her part, that the conference will focus on developing personal skills and abilities of women police. "There will be a great emphasis on talents management,  empowering women with disabilities, enhancing skills of security negotiations, improving the health of women police officers, and highlighting the role and the mission of The Leadership Development and Creativity Center,” she said.

Captain Al Bloushi declared that the Women Police Middle East Region office seeks to enhance and unify all efforts to develop women police performance, and empower Arab women working in the police. It also aims to establish a social communication network, to motivate women to assume high ranked leadership positions, and encourage them to pursue high educational levels.

Concluding, Al Bloushi shed light on the topics related to women workshops, pointing out that they will address the role of female police officers in forensics, and the modern techniques of combating cyber crimes.  They will tackle the ministry’s role with Ewa’a Shelters for Women and Children, victims of human trafficking; and its efforts in the fields of Human Rights.

25 % of women work at Caracal

Mr. Sultan Zakaria Aouda, Chief Executive Officer of Caracal International revealed that 25 % of the company’s employees are women. He added that the company is a leading manufacturer of firearms and that there are women working on the production lines.  Aouda also pointed out that a specialized training centre is available to train female workers for six months to assume their tasks efficiently on those lines.  

Seven Award Categories

 The Emirates Women Police Association Awards that will be presented at the 2nd Regional Conference of Women Police in Abu Dhabi include seven categories, namely;  Distinguished Female Employee with Disabilities Award; Scientific Excellence Award; Distinguished Military Family Award; Outstanding Performance Award; Heroism  Award; Community Service Award; and The Female Leadership Award.
