The UAE is participating in meetings of the Regional Secretariat Coordinators of the European Union Centers of Excellence for the mitigation of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) risks currently held in Belgium.
The UAE is represented at the conference by a delegation from the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs. Heading the delegation is Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and head of the establishment team of the Centers of Excellence (CoE) for the mitigation of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) risks.
The conference, attended by 120 officials and dignitaries representing 63 states, aims at enhancing cooperation between the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), and the participating countries and regional secretariats in the EU-funded Centre of Excellence for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN CoE) Risk Mitigation, with a view to develop a new efficient cooperation with other relevant international bodies.
After officially agreeing on setting up a regional secretariat in Abu Dhabi, making it the 8th operational regional secretariat, Major General Al Raisi gave a speech highlighting the UAE’s preparations to host the regional secretariat. He also tackled the future challenges, notably enhancing the competencies and skills of all national teams in the region. He also lauded the UAE’s existing highly qualified and well trained manpower, and the available resources in terms of devices, equipment and machinery. Concluding, he expressed his thanks to the meeting organizers for the opportunity to highlight the UAE’s prominent status by choosing it to host a regional secretariat.
