ADP Spreads the Concepts of Excellence

As part of its efforts to spread the excellence concepts among its personnel, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ organized a specialized course under the slogan "Certified Excellence Leader”. The course was attended by a number of department heads and directors general and their deputies, who were divided into two groups.

The workshop focused on the cognitive and practical aspects of leadership-related concepts and standards through a series of practical exercises, in accordance with the best leadership practices, consistent with the current status attained by the Abu Dhabi Police.

This course is in pursuance of the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic plan to empower the different directorates and departments’ leaders, with a view to enhance leadership abilities in the area of leadership excellence. It also aims to develop their knowledge of the European Excellence model (EFQM) used as the main component to develop the evaluation concepts and standards for the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate tackled the practical and theoretical knowledge acquired through this course. "This course represented an added value in terms of both content and introduction mechanism, commensurate with the aspirations of the leaders. It also answered many questions and queries needed by leaders in their career towards greater empowerment and development,” indicated Al Harithi.

Furthermore, Brigadier Al Harithi stressed the need to organize this course to include all leaders and supervisors, as it contribute to implant and integrate the leadership concept in the EFQM system at all levels. This would enhance the competitiveness of the leadership’s organizational units, particularly the ones in charge of field work who interact daily with the various categories of customers and public.

For his part, Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department explored the benefits of the "Certified Excellence Leader” workshop. He described the course as a melting-pot of basic knowledge and leadership-related standards. "The course was an opportunity to identify improvement possibilities that the leaders can harness to achieve further empowerment, as well as the importance of boosting leadership abilities,” added Al Nuaimi.

Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate praised the high professionalism of the trainer. "The course reflects the ambitions of our wise leadership; it motivates and boosts our ability to move towards further development of our leadership skills,” added Abdullah.

For his part, Colonel Thani Butti Al Shamesi, Head of the Training Department asserted that the courses are more than specialized courses; they complement the leadership’s efforts to promote the culture of excellence and empower leaders at all supervisory and executive levels, so as to spread the culture of excellence as a universal language as per integrated enablers through vertical and horizontal lines of authority. "It also aims to boost leadership’s competitiveness at the local, regional, and international levels; consistent with the Abu Dhabi Police’s prominent position during its tireless journey to achieve sustainable excellence.

"These programs follow the instructions of the higher leadership to boost leadership abilities, in line with the knowledge level attained by Abu Dhabi Police in all its operations, services and relations with both partners and customers. It also bolsters the trust enjoyed by the current police leadership in carrying out its tasks,” added Al Shamesi. He also underscored the instrumental role of these programs to develop leadership abilities and keep pace with leaders’ expectations; praising the interaction of the course’s participants and their commitment to achieve leadership.

Colonel Waleed Salem Al Shamesi, Head of the Police Schools Department, lauded the importance of the course. He called for implementing it so as to include, alongside heads of departments and directors general, all section heads, branch managers, team leaders and all committees in charge of following up the leadership-related initiatives and projects across the various organizational units, in order to upgrade the standard of leaders at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.

"Participants in the course acquired a set of modern excellence concepts and basics, with a view to achieve continuous improvement, development and sustainability in excellence,” he said. He added that the course provided a significant opportunity to acquaint participants with the means to achieve an integrated strategic link between leadership enablers and outcomes. "This would ultimately allow us to move forward in strengthening our practical abilities, in line with our Higher Leadership’s aspirations,” noted Al Shamesi.

Furthermore, Colonel Rashid Mubarak Al Mesmari, Deputy Director of the Capital Police Directorate said that this course is an objective and systematic self-assessment of the improvement opportunities that leaders must adopt to achieve sustainable excellence and the coveted goals of performance, within the ADP's myriad achievements.

He also stressed the need to enroll all officers who hold leadership and supervisory positions in the same course, to ensure fulfillment of the leadership’s initiatives and goals.

Major Dr. Ali Al Ghafli, Deputy Director of the Strategy and Performance Development Department indicated that this course was an excellent opportunity to review the integration between the leadership and the strategy. "The course is a roadmap to enable leaders to move forward towards developing their skills and identifying improvement opportunities,” said Al Ghafli; praising the approach of the lecturer, Dr. Emad Eddien Hussein. Al Ghafli also commended the developed methods applied to communicate ideas, in addition to the strategic link achieved between leaders’ concepts and standards, and practical cases derived from real life.

The "Certified Excellence Leader” course was held under the supervision of Dr. Emad Eddien Hussein, EFQM Licensed trainer in Brussels. Hussein praised the leaders’ enthusiasm and their quest towards continuous development, and commended their active participation in the practical exercises and discussions with respect to leaders’ abilities and competencies to support institutional development in their respective departments.
