Special Security Forces’ Annual Shooting Championship Concluded
Force 5 Department Wins the General Sports Excellence Shield

The annual shooting championship for staff members of the Special Security Forces concluded its competitions. The championship is taking place at the Special Security Forces GHQ’s shooting range at Seeh Al Mahab in the city of Al Dhaid in Sharjah.

In the target shooting final competitions for teams, the Force 5 Department team secured first place; while the Third Security Unit team ranked second. It is noteworthy that the Force 5 Department won the General Sports Excellence Shield.

The closing ceremony was attended by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior who honored the winning teams. Lt. General Al Sha’far stressed that organizing shooting tournaments at the Ministry of Interior’s various departments comes in pursuance of the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to hone and develop the competencies of the ministry’s staff members by enrolling them in several programs and events. This championship also embodies the Ministry of Interior's strategy, aimed at ensuring constant readiness and preparedness of all ministry staff members, especially the special security forces, who play a pivotal role in achieving the strategic security goals of the MoI.

For this end, it endeavors to organize successive competitions and tournaments with the aim of refining and developing the skills of its staff members. Shooting is an authentic police sports competency that highlights the skills and abilities of police staff members, and reflects their self-esteem, willingness, endurance and self-control,” noted Lt. General Al Sha’far.

Moreover, Lt. General Al Sha’far was given an overview of the combat marksmanship skills course, which included presentations to balloon shooting at the Special Security Forces GHQ. The Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior also inspected the devices and equipment used in the practical training, and manufactured by the Special Security Forces’ staff members. Al Sha’far expressed his admiration for the equipment and devices, stressing the need to develop them to serve the training processes.

Attended the ceremony were Major General Humaid Mohammed Al Hadidi, Commander in-chief of the Sharjah Police; Brigadier Ali Abdullah Alwan. Commander-in-chief of Ajman; Brigadier General Ali Mohammed Al Darwish, Director General of Human Resources at the Ministry of Interior; Brigadier Mohammed Al Nubi Mohammed, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police;and Colonel Staff Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Hajiri, Commander of the Special Security Forces at the Ministry of Interior; as well as a number of police commanders and senior officers at the Ministry of Interior.

For his part, Colonel Al Hajiri praised the outstanding level of the female competitors throughout the tournament.  He lauded the exciting rivalry between the teams and individuals and the prevailing sportsmanship, which warrants the choice of distinguished members to take part in the tournaments held at the ministry level.

Concluding, he congratulated the Force 5 Department team for ranking first and winning the General Sports Excellence Shield. Furthermore, he praised the participating sports teams and their high technical performance standard; and expressed his thanks and appreciation to all Committees who contributed to the success of the tournament.

During the five-day shooting championship, several teams and individuals competitions were organized. In the target shooting competitions using shotguns for teams, the Force 5 Department team secured first place with 1378 points; and the First Security Unit team ranked second with 1317 points. In the individuals’ competition, Ali Khamis from the Force 5 Department ranked first with 347 points; Suleiman Said Suleiman (Force 5 Department) ranked second with 346 points; Nasser Murad Ismail (Force 5 Department) ranked third with 346 points. In the shooting competitions using pistols for teams, the Force 5 Department team secured first place with 735 points; the Third Security Unit team ranked second with 682 points. In the individuals’ competition, the First Assistant Salem Mohammed from the First Security Unit ranked first with 211 points; Sergeant Hamad Rahma (Force 5 Department) ranked second with 205 points; and Corporal Saeed Al Saridi ranked third with 205 points. In the shooting competition using shotguns for teams of officers, the Second Security Unit team secured first place with 353 points; and the Force 5 Department team ranked second with 291 points. In the individuals’ competition, Captain Abdullah Ismail from the Operations team ranked first with 204 points; First Lieutenant Yusuf Hassan ranked second; and Major Mohammed Al Owais form the Management team ranked third with 180 points.
