Abu Dhabi Police launches an Awareness Initiative for Eid Al Adha
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 6th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ launched an awareness initiative for the occasion of Eid Al Adha that comprises the preparation of an integral plan for enhancing safety. The initiative is a part of the "Salamtak” campaign implemented by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Major General Mohammad Bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police, said that the police will intensify patrols in different areas in Abu Dhabi and will follow up on all police squads’ efforts particularly in cases of emergency. The Major General underscored the significance of collective efforts and preventive measures undertaken during the Eid holiday and in all occasions throughout the year. He mentioned that all police and security authorities share in the Eid plan with the most advanced and up-to-date tools.

The Director General of Police Operations called on all society members to collaborate and foster prevention and safety measures in different locations such as parks, public gardens, and shopping malls. He invited everyone to be careful in all other places that are expected to have a high flow of visitors during the Eid holiday.

Major General Al Awadhi invited people and parents, in particular, to watch over their children and not allow them to play unsupervised in playing areas. He stressed that children are never to be left alone for the fear of falling from high places or escalators, or being lost among the crowd. The Major General pointed out that parents should not leave their kids alone at home to avoid the potential of hazards involving sharp objects or inflammable materials. He stressed that they play in funfairs and parks only under the supervision of their parents. Children, as he said, should stay far from dangerous machines at funfairs, or those rides that are not suitable for their age.

He emphasized that fully enjoying the time spent in public gardens or parks is achieved when safety measures are present. Parents must pay high attention near deep openings, uncovered wells, unattended electricity cables, or where insects and snakes are found. This case, according to Al Awadhi applies to anything that could be potentially dangerous. Barbecuing is to be carried out in specified places offered by municipalities and should be avoided on home balconies, so that burning embers do not lead to fires. He stressed at the same time on the importance of eliminating all unattended and damaged cables and covering all water pumps inside and outside the house. He also urged the community to change water heaters if they are more than five years old and ensuring to switch off lights in case of heavy rain and also to cut electricity off from advertising boards for shops as well.
