Public Turnout for the E-border Project in Al Ain
Registration Process Takes 20 Seconds per Person

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, October 6th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The registration system of the E-border Project in the Al Ain Mall witnessed a good turnout by citizens and residents who arrived to avail the e-border service in order to complete their travel procedures at the UAE airports quickly.

Major Mohammad Ahmad Al Zaabi, Director of the E-border Project, stated that registration includes all citizens, GCC citizens, residents, and those who obtained a visa from the border port. The e-border service also allows registering children from the age of five years and above. There is also a special place for women and people with special needs.

He explained that the e-border service works on simplifying travel procedures through all the ports of the country by means of facilitating the entry and exit of passengers with an eye scan and face and hand print technology. This allows travelers to complete travel procedures in a matter of seconds offering passengers ease and speed in doing so as well as safety of traffic at the border ports. Major Al Zaabi also noted that those wishing to register for the e-border service have to bring their passports with them; the entire registering process takes no more than 20 seconds.

On their part, some persons who registered expressed their satisfaction with the project, which facilitates their travel procedures through the border ports of the country. Lauding the speed in processing his transaction, citizen Mahmoud Hamid Al Humairi said that the process of taking his personal data and the bio-prints (the eye scan and the hand and face prints) took no longer than 20 seconds. Samer Al Awad Babaker, who works for a travel and tourism company in Al Ain, stressed that registering for the e-border service grants passengers a chance to simplify the travel procedures and save time and effort as well as offers convenience. Muhra Al Tunaiji, a housewife, added that it is not only about bio-prints; rather the Ministry of Interior also provides several electronic services by delivering the latest developments and awareness messages to the public through social media (Facebook and Twitter), e-screens, and via email.

Abdurrahman bin Hamdan bin Saif Al Mufreji said that the e-border project provides passengers with ease and speed in completing their travel procedures for free. It is available to the various segments of society, as he himself managed to register his three children easily and with advanced devices for taking bio-prints.

Since the beginning of the registration process last October in the city of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Police had provided the public with awareness through the social media sites and e-screens in addition to publishing news materials on the visual, audio, and print media outlets.

The Abu Dhabi Police also communicates with the public through the toll free number: 800 5000.

Notably, the media campaign that is overseen by the Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the General Department of Central Operations, in coordination with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is on-going.
