Capital Police Directorate Discusses Property Protection Against Theft with Merchants
Introduce 150 shop owners to protection measures

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 21st 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Capital Police Directorate urged merchants to increase the protection of their properties to avoid theft by introducing them to preventative measures and elevating their security awareness in order to fight crime.

In a workshop, which was organized by the Capital Police Directorate in its auditorium, 150 owners of mobile phone shops were introduced to security measures to protect their properties. The workshop discussed procedures and efforts, in addition to addressing how to cooperate with the police.

Brigadier Maktoum Al Sharifi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate, said: "The workshop focused on raising the security awareness of shop owners in order to deter theft. Education on public safety is of vital importance, while individual and police member cooperation is necessary to protect security achievements.”

"Within its endeavor to achieve its mission and the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to maintain security and defeat crime, the Capital Police Directorate will continue to organize awareness workshops with its external partners in different sectors, implementing the principle: ‘Prevention is better than the cure.’ Such workshops raise the community’s security and social awareness enabling them to take the preventative measures necessary to protect their properties. We also aim to empower awareness in order to protect the achievements in security and stability,” he added.

Lt. Colonel Rashid Al Dhaheri, Shabia Police Station at the Capital Police Directorate, who directed the workshop, said: "This workshop activates the preventative role against crime in collaboration with strategic partners. It also highlights the role of participation and the need to join forces to maintain community security.”

Al Dhaheri explained the main reasons for crimes, placing particular focus on the neglect of property owners to secure their shops in addition to leaving large cash amounts in safes inside. The workshop also discussed the preventative measures and procedures necessary to protect shops. Al Dhaheri also answered the shop owners’ questions and inquiries.

He said: "Community members should communicate with police in order to curtail crime; it is a joint responsibility for everyone.”

Viewed as a good step to enhance the protection of public properties, shop owners commended the efforts of the Capital Police Directorate to communicate with them and listen to their opinions regarding the security of their shops. They also praised its efforts in urging them to install security cameras inside and outside the shops, instead of only inside. They also applauded the suggestion to install metal mesh roller shutter doors approved by the Abu Dhabi Municipality that would allow passing patrols to see inside the shop at night.

Saeed Al Rumaithi from the Abu Dhabi Municipality delivered an explanation of the requirements of the metal mesh roller shutter doors that are approved by them and in line with the city’s image. He promised that the Abu Dhabi Municipality will visit shop owners to provide them with these requirements.
