Follow-up order for Ascom: The Stuttgart Clinical Centre is expanding the use of mobile communication systems from Ascom

STUTTGART, Germany - Wednesday, July 17th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) Besides in Bad Cannstatt Hospital the Stuttgart Clinical Centre is now also using integrated wireless IP DECT communication systems from Ascom at the new clinic location centre. The project involves the installation of mobile devices such as Ascom d62 and Ascom d81 as well as support services. For the order Ascom supplied over 1,000 base stations and around 1,390 terminals to enable the user to handle wireless telephony, messaging and various alarm functions. In addition, information from patient monitors can be transmitted directly to each mobile terminal. The IP DECT solutions will be implemented gradually in the new buildings of the Olgahospital and the Gynecological Hospital as well as in the adjacent Katharinenhospital. The new centre is considered to be the trend-setting hub of the clinical centre location, which will house various medical centres in the future. Open system architecture enables the alarm telephony systems to be used across all three clinic locations - an added value in terms of flexibility and economic efficiency. The devices are also characterised by a high level of performance, stability and functionality whilst at the same time offering user convenience.

Brief review: In 2012 a start was made to the extended Bad Cannstatt location. "For a clinic such as Stuttgart, ensuring maximum protection and patient comfort in the individual hospitals and medical centres is a top priority. One requirement for this is ensure that the hospital staff have prompt and reliable information on the relevant hospital-related events", explains Jörg Gebauer, CEO of Ascom Deutschland GmbH. "To this end, our customer was looking for a consistent, yet above all sustainable communication solution, which meets the high demands in security, efficiency and flexibility."

In total 650 of the IP DECT devices Ascom d62 and Ascom d81 have been installed in Bad Cannstatt. In specific areas requiring more detailed types of alarms the d81 terminals are used as a personal emergency response system. This allows the hospital staff to trigger an alarm by pressing the alarm button. This is transmitted by radio to a central office. An integrated localization function also determines the location of the alarm transmitter. This solution is certified under Germany's employer liability insurance association directive (BGR 139). "As the clinic is continually being modernised and extended, individualised requirements should be met with future-oriented systems offering a secure investment. Our scalable IP DECT systems make it possible for every clinical field to have the solution that it needs", concludes Jörg Gebauer.

About the Stuttgart Clinical Centre

The four hospitals within the Stuttgart Clinical Centre – Bürgerhospital, Katharinenhospital, Bad Cannstatt Hospital and Olgahospital – cover the entire spectrum of modern advanced medicine: from prenatal diagnosis and intensive care of premature babies, to all special disciplines of child and adult medicine to specific diseases of old age. The new location centre is on the premises of the Katharinenhospital. The new buildings for the Olgahospital and Gynecological Hospital are growing in height. The Katharinenhospital location will maintain a new building structure with the new buildings and conversions for the Centre for Internal Medicine, the Centre for Operative Medicine, the Neurocentre as well as the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Eye Clinic. Merging the centres and hospitals will establish the hub of the clinical centre location in the central new building. The construction period is planned from 2012 until 2022. The Bad Cannstatt location will also be upgraded and extended. The new building of the Mental Health Centre at Bad Cannstatt Hospital is completed and has been open since March 2012. Plans for the Geriatric Centre at the Bad Canstatt location have commenced.
