"We pledge to redouble efforts towards the progress and development of the youth and sports sector, which includes a broad spectrum of Emirati citizens,” he noted.

These remarks were made by Major General Al Kutbi while presiding over the first meeting of the Emirates Archery Association, held recently at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, in the presence of all members.

Al Kutbi praised the decision to establish the Association, stressing that it comes in line with the higher leadership’s aspirations to achieve excellence in the game, by promoting it and setting up a sports base at the level of sports clubs and centers.

He indicated that selection of the Board of Directors members was based on their ability to develop the game and promote it across the state. "We discussed a number of issues on the agenda, as well as the mechanism of action, in accordance with the various competencies, tasks and duties”, he said; pointing out that the related regulations were revised, as well as the Association’s strategy, so as to keep abreast of all developments.

Al Kutbi explained that the Association is determined to promote this sport, and contribute to its popularity, to attract the young generation and help them channel their energies in a beneficial and useful manner.

Al Kutbi announced that administrative positions were distributed as follows: Colonel Waleed Salem Al Shamsi, Vice Chairman of the Board; Lt. Colonel Dr. Sarhan Hassan Al Mouini, Secretary-General; Lt. Colonel Faisal Qassim, Assistant to the Secretary-General and Public Relations Officer; Mubarak Al Hammadi, finance director; Abdul Aziz Al Junaibi, teams supervisor; and Noura Al Shamsi officer in charge of women's activities.

For his part, Colonel Waleed Salem Al Shamsi, Vice Chairman of the Board, indicated that the Association was established to encourage the game, as per the sound planning for all clubs of the State; to qualify male and female distinguished players. Moreover, he pointed out that local and regional practices were reviewed so as to draw on the successful experiences of similar Associations to advance the game.

Dr Sarhan Al Mouini, Secretary-General of the Association, indicated that a set of mechanisms will be prepared to provide technical and cultural support to promote the game locally, via athletes who practice similar sports, and wishing to practice archery.

Concluding, he added: "We have communicated with the Arab Archery Federation to get better acquainted with its technical and administrative plans; to enable the Association to move forward in parallel with the recognized international federations. The Arab Archery Federation highly approved this approach, and is more than willing to provide the Emirates Archery Association with technical advice as it begins its work”.
