Abu Dhabi Police and Harris Atlas Systems Sign MoU on GIS
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 10th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, represented by the Central Operations Directorate General’s GIS Security Center, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Harris Atlas Systems.

The MoU was signed by Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police, and Wesley Covell, VP of Middle East Operations at Harris Corporation.

It sets the foundation for a long-term cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Police and Harris Atlas Systems to develop an internationally-standardized training program. This program focuses on GIS security and is dedicated to supporting security staff. Both sides will also collaborate to prepare a feasibility study to establish a GIS security institute, which is to serve as a world-class training center implementing the best GIS technologies in policing, public safety, and internal security.

The institute will prepare and train the next generation of officers and non-commissioned officers at the Ministry of Interior to implement and use GIS international standards. These standards will guarantee inter-operation and standardization on the federal level.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi said: "Developing human resources is a strategic initiative to serve the leading vision of the Ministry of Interior, which prioritizes the optimization of man power.” He added: "This MoU aims to lay the foundation for long-term strong collaboration to develop a world-class GIS training system in order to bring benefit to the Abu Dhabi Police in its efforts to implement international best practices and the latest techniques, according to our approved training policies.”

Wesley Covell expressed the pleasure of Harris Atlas Systems to cooperate with the Ministry of Interior to develop a program that improves and develops the UAE’s human resources and channels expertise to make the institute a leading destination in the GIS sector for policing, public safety and internal security.

Captain Mohammed Saleh Al Mansouri, Director of the GIS Security Center, said: "The continuous support from the police leadership was vital to empower our national man power and implement the GIS techniques within the policing and public safety field to serve the needs of civil defense teams, the police leadership, and different police units in the country and region.”

Atlas CEO Ahmed Seddiq Al Mutuwaa; Leon Shivamber, Managing Director and Board Member at Harris Atlas Systems; Lieutenant Sultan Al Shamesi, Head of Training Unit at the center; and a number of officials at the company attended the signing ceremony, which was held at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.
