ADP: 130 Motorists Arrested for Reckless Driving and Illegal Modifications
Specialized Patrols to Reduce Youth Stunts

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate reinforced traffic control through specialized patrols, to curb dangerous reckless behavior by youth during summer vacation. This includes show-offs and stunts with vehicles and motorcycles, fitted with illegally modified power boosters which increase the speed and amplify the engine’s sound, in addition to other reckless behavior.  "This kind of behavior causes inconvenience and subjects the youth to serious traffic accidents if the driver loses control over his vehicle”, noted Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police.

Brigadier Al Harthi emphasized that a comprehensive plan for crowd management and stunts control has been developed in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, in line with the summer traffic safety plan to intensify surveillance and traffic investigation civil patrols equipped with cameras to photograph offenders.

On the same note, Brigadier Al Harthi warned young motorists against reckless driving, underscoring the risks of fitting vehicles and motorbikes with illegal additions and modifications to increase their sound and speed on public roads. "The unsafe electrical extensions and wirings installed to engines by unprofessional persons, for the purpose of increasing the speed of vehicles unqualified for such additions increase the risk of outbreak of fire in vehicles. If the vehicle collides with a solid object, it may explode; or a short circuit with fuel leakage may occur due to the collision”, pointed out Al Harthi.

Furthermore, he noted that the police shall adopt a zero-tolerance policy against offenders, whereas the violating vehicle will be seized for a period of one month and offenders referred to the public prosecution to take legal action against them.

On the other hand, Major Saif Mohammed Nuaif Al Ameri, Director of Al Ain Traffic Investigation Branch Traffic Control noted that the campaigns executed by the Directorate, between June 10 -20 June resulted in the arrest of about 130 offenders, including 52 for reckless driving, and 78 for fitting the vehicle with illegal modifications, in the regions of Mzyad, Al Dhaher, Umm Ghafa, Al Qua’a, ad Zakher region) in Al Ain city.

Moreover, he urged parents and families to provide guidance for their children and prevent them from driving vehicles and motorcycles without a driving license. He also called on them to report any negative behaviors carried out by students near schools, to enable the Directorate to take action and respond to such conditions to deter offenders.

Concluding Al Ameiri appealed to families, to enroll their children in summer centers to fill their leisure time during the summer vacation with useful activities, benefitting them and protecting them from traffic accidents. He also underscored the need for concerted efforts to maintain the safety of their children and protect them from traffic accidents that often lead to deaths and serious injuries among students, as well as the loss of public funds and damage to vehicles.
