15,000 Shoppers Benefited from Drug Awareness Events

More than 15,000 members, including school students and children, benefitted from the drug awareness events organized by the Abu Dhabi Police to mark the "World Anti-Drugs Day 2013”, held under the slogan "Be in a Good Company… Say no to Drugs”. The Abu Dhabi Police concluded the five-day celebrations organized at a number of malls, namely; Bawabat Al Sharq Mall at Banyas city; Al Ain Mall in Al Ain; and the TAMM and Gayathi Centers for Integrated Government Services in the Western Region. The celebrations attracted a large number of shoppers who took advantage of the awareness-raising programs, activities, and theater performances; along with a free drawing pavilion and community contests. Brochures, pamphlets and prizes were distributed to all participants, so as to combat the scourge of drugs, due to their adverse effects on both society and drug users; and to acquaint the public with the methods used by drug traffickers to lure their victims.
People of all ages and nationalities interacted significantly with this great event, organized by the Anti-Narcotics Division affiliated to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abu Dhabi Police. It is noteworthy that various police departments, as well as private and government entities took part in this event.
Furthermore, families emphasized the importance of this year's events as a wake-up call for parents to better supervise their children and know the friends they pal up with; in order to protect them from bad companions, and from the perils of drugs which adversely impact society in general, and families in particular.
The public lauded the keenness of the Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Anti-Narcotics Division at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to keep abreast of the event, by spreading awareness-raising messages to various community groups and segments, citizens and residents alike. The pubic also commended the Police’s efforts in combating crime, especially drug traffic and traffickers of death who promote this dangerous scourge that threatens the security and safety of the community and its members, as well as family and social cohesion.
Notably, the UAE takes part in the celebrations held across the world, to mark the "World Anti-Drugs Day”, being observed worldwide on June 26.
