MoI: Graduation of the First Batch of Crime Scene Investigators
Including 30 officers and noncommissioned officers


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, June 24th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

Major General Nasser Lekhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the office of His Highness, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, emphasized that the UAE has attained a preeminent position in the field of Crime Scene Investigations among the region’s countries.  He also underscored the important harmony between investigation officers and crime scene examiners in policing and security work.

Al Nuaimi had attended on Monday at the Criminal Evidence Hall, the graduation ceremony of the first batch of Crime Scene Investigators. The graduates, which include 30 officers and noncommissioned officers from across the country, who acquired the Crime Scene Investigator diploma granted by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ in cooperation with the Scottish Police College and the Scottish Higher Education Council, and recognized in all European Union Countries.

In his speech on the occasion, Major General Al Nuaimi congratulated the graduates, wishing them success in serving the country. He also gave an overview of the Crime Scene Department’s history since its inception and its achievements in a short period of time. He expressed his thanks to the supervisors of the Crime Scene Diploma program for their efforts.

The ceremony was attended by Maj. General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services; Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations; and Brigadier Doctor Saif Bu Dhfaira Al Ameri, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs. Also present were Brigadier Fares Al Farsi, Director General of Guards and Special Tasks; Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Director of Purchases and Warehouses Department at Abu Dhabi Police; and a number of directors and heads of departments.

Lt. Colonel Salem Khalifa Al Dire, Director of Crime Scene Department said that the graduation of the first batch of the Crime Scene Investigators Diploma is the result of years-long efforts.  It all began with a thorough search for an international policing body specialized in training crime scene technicians and examiners, to the  selection of the Scottish Police, renowned for its well-established expertise in this field, and  the appropriate  working conditions that befit the goals and requirements of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. Cooperation and coordination continued until completion of the project and the graduation of the first batch.

He added that the most important aspect of empowerment is the field implementation and continuous training, as per the strategy of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, aimed at preparing trained personnel. Coordination was achieved with the Australian Police to implement the Crime Scene Investigators professional assessment project, whereby the trainee is awarded the 4th Australian Certificate. Efforts are also underway to achieve cooperation with British Universities to grant Bachelor degrees in crime examination and analysis.

Al Dire indicated that there are currently 10 scholarship students specializing in Crime Scene Management and Analysis in both the US and UK universities. Moreover, he lauded the unlimited support received by the Crime Scene Department and its projects from the higher leadership, with a view to make the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ a leader in this field regionally and internationally.

The attendees watched a documentary highlighting the achievements of the Crime Scene Department at Abu Dhabi Police. For their part, the graduates expressed their happiness to obtain a diploma in Crime Scene Investigation, which will positively impact their academic and practical career. They praised the significant attention dedicated by the higher leadership to prepare and qualify the human cadre as per the highest international levels.

At the end of the ceremony, Major General Nasser Lekhrebani Al Nuaimi handed the diploma certificates to the 30 officers and noncommissioned officers. He also honored participants in the Crime Scene Investigator Diploma project in recognition of their efforts.
