The Directorate General of the Federal Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior organized an introductory workshop titled "Culture of Combating Human Trafficking”, attended by a number of officers and non-commissioned officers from the Federal Criminal Police Department, the Human Rights Department, and the Ewa’a Shelter for Women and Children.
The workshop, which was held at the Eastern Mangroves Hotel in Abu Dhabi, was attended by Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior. Also present were Brigadier Mohammad Ghadir Al Kutobi, Deputy Director General of the Federal Criminal Police, and Colonel Hassan Al Shamsi, Director of the Federal Investigation Department, as well as a number of Ministry of Interior’s officers.
In his speech at the workshop’s inauguration, Brigadier Ahmed Nehkairah highlighted the UAE’s early commitment to preserve human beings’ dignity, being the real pillar of the community development and prosperity.  "The UAE has made significant efforts to combat human trafficking crimes. These efforts were highly appraised and commended by the International Community and the various human rights organizations”, added Brigadier Nekhairah.
Moreover, he noted that the promulgation of the Federal Law No. 51/2006 on combating human trafficking, which led to the establishment of the National Committee on Combating Human Trafficking is the culmination of the efforts of the State in combating this crime.
Brigadier Ahmed Nehkairah also underscored the keenness of the Ministry of Interior to strengthen international cooperation and coordination with international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations and international bodies to help eradicate human trafficking crimes.  This can be achieved by adopting a set of measures to curb such crimes; as well as organizing workshops, training courses and symposia, with a view to spread knowledge and raise awareness among police officers, regarding the implementation of the law on combating human trafficking crimes.
Concluding, Brigadier Nehkairah expressed his hope that the workshop achieves the coveted goals, wishing everyone further success.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Hamad Rashid Al Zaabi, head of the Anti-human Trafficking Section defined human trafficking crimes; the mechanism of identification of human trafficking victims; the fundamental rules of criminal evidence collection; and the phases and aspects of criminal investigation in human trafficking cases.
Notably, a number of practical exercises were conducted during the workshop, to acquaint attendees with the methods and means adopted by criminals to exploit victims and force them to perform illegal acts.
