New ICC-ES Report Expands Building Code Guidance for Use of MMFX2 ASTM A1035 High-Strength Rebar
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Monday, February 4th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MMFX Steel DMCC (www.mmfx.com) announced today that the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) has issued Evaluation Report ESR-2107 for MMFX2, an uncoated corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel. The report provides design guidance for using MMFX2 ASTM A1035 high-strength reinforcing steel up to 690 ksi beyond the current ACI 318 limitations from the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

The ESR-2107 report demonstrates how MMFX2 ASTM A1035 Grade 100 (690 MPa) complies with all applicable areas of the 2012 and 2009 International Building Code® (IBC). The report provides engineers and building officials a verified guide on how to specify, approve and properly take advantage of the high-strength benefits of MMFX2 reinforcing steel.

"MMFX2 reinforcing steel offers engineers, construction contractors and owners a high-strength rebar solution to reduce material, labor and constructions costs in addition to the material’s superior corrosion resistant properties,” said Tom Russo, MMFX Technologies CEO, who recently joined MMFX in January to expand the acceptance of MMFX2 materials utilizing his more than 35 years of steel industry experience.

ICC-ES Evaluation Reports are the most preferred resource used by code officials to verify that new and innovative building products comply with code requirements. The report was issued by ICC-ES after rigorous independent testing and evaluation of key physical property and performance criteria of MMFX2 reinforcing steel.

"The ICC-Evaluation Services Report provides building code guidance, so engineers can take advantage of the higher strength of MMFX2 reinforcing steels, supporting more efficient construction and providing superior value. This further expands the acceptance of the MMFX2 technology,” added Russo.

The ESR-2107 report outlines the methodology for structural design using MMFX2 ASTM A1035 Grade 100 (690 MPa) high-strength reinforcing bars in accordance with ACI 318, as modified by the ACI ITG-6R-10 report, "Design Guide for the Use of ASTM A1035 / A1035M Grade 100 (690 MPa) Steel Bars for Structural Concrete.”

High-strength rebar, such as MMFX2 100 Grade (690MPa) bar, allows structures to be designed and built with 20 to 50 percent less steel and up to 60 percent lower labor costs. By specifying high-strength steels, designers can solve costly rebar congestion problems and developers can complete structures more quickly, resulting in substantial cost savings.

MMFX2 rebar is also more ductile than other high-strength steels and can be fabricated using conventional fabrication equipment. MMFX2 rebar further offers superior corrosion-resistance, resulting in longer-lasting buildings and other structures without the problems and special handling requirements associated with coated rebar. The product’s combined strength and corrosion-resistance improves constructability and sustainability.

MMFX2 rebar is sold in North and South America by MMFX Steel Corporation of America and in the Middle East by MMFX Steel DMCC.
