Abdullah Al-Al-Dosari and Ghassan Afandi, drivers of "Saudi Gear Hyundai" racing team, are all set and in high spirits to compete in the 2nd round of the "Saudi Racing Festival" season 2013 which kicks off on Wednesday (Jan. 16) in Riyadh.
Al-Al-Dosari is going head to head in the T2 category of the GT championship onboard Hyundai Genesis 3.8 GT, while Afandi, onboard Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo, is taking part in Drifting category both locally and regionally.
The Hyundai Genesis, under the sponsorship of Mohammed Yousuf Naghi Motors, strongly enters motorsport season this year, having Al-Al-Dosari of the Saudi Gear team, who was the winner of last years' season championship.
In the first round of the Saudi GT championship 2012/2013, Al-Al-Dosari had to overcome some hiccups when a technician forgot to fuel the car and balance the tire air pressure which slowed him down, erasing the best time and the first pole position which he clocked in earlier in the race. Though the team was on the verge of quitting, the sporting attitude of Al-Al-Dosari persevered, which, despite all odds, landed him in the third position in the lap.
Team's manager, Mohammed Sufiani, stressed on the future of the team, and said: "Despite the technical problems experienced by the team, our champions always are able to overcome problems by wisdom and experience.What the champion Abdullah Al-Dosari presented was a driving lesson for everybody, and this is what we expect from him in the coming rounds."
Exuding pleasure in completing the preparation for the coming round, Al-Dosari said: "We are in an excellent position. Our capabilities are strong. Being part of the competition is great, but the sense of the team spirit is greater, this is the success formula of Saudi Gear team in the last years. The Saudi GT Championship, approved by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), debuted at the Saudi Racing Festival season 2011/2012 – being the most common form of car racing.
